So far, OOO's movies have been either disappointing or perfectly fine, which leaves us now with OOO's solo summer movie which brings us to everyone's favorite period in japan, the Edo era.
In a forest somewhere in japan-sorry I mean Germany, Kougami and Satonaka are overlooking an expidition that is unearthing the location of one of the first OOO's alchemist to achieve the legendary medals. Of course instead of leaving it be, they break the seal which causes a whole bunch of cell medals to burst into a tower and causes barriers to form over japan and flip certain locations over (don't worry no one falls into the earths station and dies) This leads to OOO's and Birth to go and investigate and the all of the Greeed's to, everyone of them. Yeah, like with Movie war core, Wonderful's placement in the series is suspect seeing as how all of the greeed's are alive even though the only point that happens is when Ankh betrays Eiji near the climax of the show, at best it probably takes place after episode 36 but considering how Uva was a singular medal, its placement can be considering an alternate continuity. Anywho, a new figure shows up and proceeds to steal all of the core medals from all the Greeed's and makes his claim to become the new OOO's and rule over the world. This is soon revealed by Shintaro to be Gara, one of the alchemist who had previously worked to create the core medals and is now currently holding Kougami and Satonaka captive and collecting human desires for his plot, Eiji, Ankh and Hina soon find themselves flipped back in time to the edo period and must return to the present in order to stop Gara from executing their plan.
If their is a way I can best describe Wonderful its this, its a pretty good summer blockbuster, its nothing that will blow anyone out of water, but this is a pretty good watch, the edo era had me concerned that it was going to spend demonizing those who came from the present, but that thankfully is put to rest quickly as we get to enjoy a recreated edo period village, that of course includes the Cous coussier because, there are just some places that have and will exist forever. The child actor that tags along because he lost his mother just as this whole thing happened and, just guess what happened to his mother, you likely have made the guess already...yeah, she was possessed by Gara, outside of that, he is about as standard as a tag-a-long kid comes, though I guess he doesn't flip the time space continuum a infinite amount of middle fingers.
As a villain, Gara is also pretty standard of a rule the world villain, his design is in its human form is gaudy in a fun kind of over the top form, with the monster form having this simple design as a humanoid dragon before he becomes a cgi dragon. That being said, it is nice to dive into the mythos about the history of the medals and its creators even if it is not much. Though I gotta say, the way Eiji stops Gara's plan is one of the more interesting uses of desire the series has going for it
Action wise, this is where wonderful really shines, there are some pretty good sequences, Fourze's cameo also does a good job of previewing the upcoming hero( and how not serious the upcoming show's hero is going to seem to be) Burakawani's fight against the Nue yummy is good but all of it is blown out of the park by the finale which see's every combo from the show in the climax. This...this is just amazing, this is almost worth the price of admission just for the sight alone and how the final kick is just...man, I love toku sometimes.
Though if there is one major issue, its how Date and Goto are handeled, there basically stuck on the outside of the situation and really don't do much, even in the finale he really doesn't do much, I get he is here because he was a popular character in OOO's and some of the stuff with him and goto is bit funny. Also for some reason I kind of chuckle at the fact that Eiji had a taka medal stuck to his foot this whole and Ankh reaction on having to share his prime core medal, its that kind of guilty joke I like sometimes
CONCLUSION
While not a high bar to meet, Kamen Rider OOO's Wonderful is the best of OOO's movie, it's nothing revolutionary and doesn't do much to add to the mythos of ooo's with the exception of Gara, but its a fun enough ride throughout with some good action and solid humor. Its worth at least one watch escpecially for that conclusion... I mean, can I just rank it as an S just for that...no, I have to grade it on the whole. Okay, fine.
FINAL GRADE: C+
